European experience serving świętokrzyskie ecology: 6th CORE Project Regional Stakeholders Meeting
KIELCE, Poland – On February 20, 2026, the Marshal Office of the Świętokrzyskie Region hosted the 6th Regional Stakeholders Meeting of the “CORE – Composting in Rural Environments” project. The event brought together regional partners: local authorities, waste management plant managers and experts to discuss the progress of this Interreg Europe initiative.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Jacek Mazur, Deputy Director of Environment and Climate Department. Liliana Krężołek, the project coordinator in świętokrzyskie region, focused on summarizing three years of international cooperation and delivered a presentation titled “From Sweden to Spain: European recipes for home composting” highlighting how European solutions are influencing regional public policies and waste management strategies.
A key highlight of the session was the report from the 6th Thematic Seminar and study visits in Sweden. Małgorzata Walczak from the Department of Environment and Climate shared successful European practices that can be adapted to the rural areas of the Świętokrzyskie region to enhance local composting efforts.
“The CORE project continues to be a vital platform for exchanging knowledge between European regions,” noted the organizers. The discussion among stakeholders emphasized the practical application of Swedish, Belgian and Spanish models to improve recycling levels and biodegradable waste treatment in Poland.
The CORE project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 program, aiming to promote sustainable composting solutions in rural environments across Europe. It is coordinated in the region by the Department of Regional Development in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Climate and Environment in Marshal Office.
