5th Regional Stakeholders’ Meeting of the NACAO Project

The Marshal Office of the Świętokrzyskie Region hosted the 5th meeting of the Regional Stakeholder Group within the NACAO project, implemented under the Interreg Europe programme. The event, focused on exchanging good practices in the field of green and blue carbon, was chaired by Joanna Rudawska, Deputy Director of the Department of Regional Development.

During the meeting, staff of the Economic Cooperation and European Projects Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Climate and Environment, presented good practices previously shared by NACAO partners during the 5th Thematic Seminar in Kielce.

Liliana Krężołek, NACAO project local coordinator outlined the current progress of the project “NACAO – Nature-based Carbon Offsetting” (Interreg Europe 2021–2027), presented the current state of project implementation, including the Regional Environmental Protection Programme for the Świętokrzyskie Region for 2015–2020 with a perspective until 2025. The programme sets directions such as increasing forest cover, enhancing water retention capacity in forests and reclaiming degraded or devastated land. She summarized the last meeting that took place in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in Umianowice: 5th Thematic Seminar.

She also highlighted solutions to be shared at the upcoming October conference in Sarajevo: “Better flood prevention through nature-based solutions. A capacity-building event for new partner countries”.

Hubert Wróblewski, presented good practices that were presented during the last partner meeting : i.e. Draft Climate Strategy for Northern Central Finland, Bremen Biodiversity Strategy 2030, ClimaSTORY or FEVer Strategy (Funzioni Ecologiche del Verde) – Ecological Function of Greenery.

The NACAO project aims to exchange experience and improve regional development policies in the field of greenhouse gas offsetting. It is based on nature-based solutions, focusing on the protection, management and restoration of forests, wetlands and other ecosystems that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The NACAO project is implemented within the frames of INTERREG EUROPE 2021-2027 program and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the EU under the project “NACAO – Nature-based Carbon Offsets”, Policy objective 2: Greener Europe, Specific objective: Climate change.
